The hypocrisy of Gambling

For anyone that does not know, Wayne Gretzky and other NHL officials and players have been caught running a gambling ring. story

According to the reports the players did not bet on NHL only other sports. I don't care! furthermore it is disturbing to me that people can be arrested for gambling. It is 2006, shouldn't adults be able to decide if they want to risk their money?

I am a die-hard sports fan and I would never want the integrity of the game questioned, but players betting on other sports does not bother me.

So long as the bets were legal and they were not betting on hockey, I do not see what the big deal is. Let’s move on! After all, gambling is legal in many places, and many adults take part in it in one way or another. It seems that just about every state has legalized gambling now - be it casinos, lottery, or even Church bingo games.

That being said, there could be a big scandal here. From the sound of it, the bets may have been placed illegally. And there are money laundering charges on top of that. Usually these types of underground operations involve more than just gambling. There could be drugs and prostitution involved as well. If that’s the case, then there will be a HUGE problem for the league, and a big blow to the reputation of guys like Gretsky and Tocchet.

If the whole thing is just about gambling, then it all comes down to whether or not they bet on hockey games.

I really dont care if the bets were placed illegally but if there were drugs and prostitution then you are exactly right this will be huge.
